It is no secret that I love reading..in fact, I even challenged myself to read at least 24 books during this year! I am trying to mix in some new ones with some old, but there are some that demand a re-read every year. Here is a list I heart and would recommend for you! What are your favorite non-fictions? Any different ones to recommend? 10. Beautiful in God’s Eyes by Elizabeth George 9. Grace for the Good Girl by Emily Freeman 8. The Embrace of Grace by Caleb Thompson 7. Passion and Purity by Elizabeth Elliot 6. Music in the Air by Mark Ward 5. Changed into His Image by Jim Berg 4. Little House On The Praire series by Laura Ingalls Wilder 3. Free Grace and Dying Love by Susanna Spurgeon 2. Music in the Air by Kimberly Smith 1. The Bible - of course. :) Ps. You can follow along with the books I’m reading (along with a brief review) each month in my Hot Happenings posts. Last Top Ten: Things to Learn

How to sew a Mitered Corner (and How To get your Tablecloth to Lay Flat)

I am always glad to be able to share some sewing tips with you all! I love learning new things and sharing them with you! Today I am going to show you how to make a mitered corner. Mitered corners is something I have done in the past, but it is one of those things that takes me a while to figure out and actually think through before I "get it." Really it is quite simple! I was working on a tablecloth a friend of mine ordered, and decided it would look much neater with mitered corners. I turned to my lifesaver-of-a-book-series, the Singer Sewing Reference Library: Sewing for the Home. I used these same books for this project , and often find myself referring to them! Copyrighted in 1984, they are a little outdated, but the techniques haven't changed. They made this project so much easier! I started by pressing my hem all the way around. I finish my raw edges with a serger and then pressed 1" over on all sides for a 1" hem. I pressed the corners very well. This ga

June Pinterest Project: Orange Sesame Chicken

Image
I’m excited to share my P-P-P-Pinterest project with you for the month of June! I mentioned it was a happy coincidence that my cousin suggested we whip up a Pinterest-inspired recipe in the spirit of stop-pinning-and-start-doing! We chose Orange Sesame Chicken as our dish of choice, inspired by pins such as these: Source: grumpyshoneybunch.com via Nicole on Pinterest My cousin surfed around until we found a recipe that seemed doable and not to time-consuming. Some required TONS of ingredients and some pretty intensive steps in the cooking process, so we opted out of those. We were hungry, what can we say? So we settled on this recipe: Orange Sesame Chicken - Fake Out Take Out 3 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons orange marmalade 1 tablespoon sweet rice cooking wine or white wine (we used white wine vinegar) 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (we left these out) 1/2 cup flour 2 tablespoon sesame seeds 3 tablespoons butter - melted Rice (

A Little Window Shopping

Do any of you other bloggers find yourself doing this? I’ll just be doing whatever random thing I happen to be doing on any given day, and suddenly find myself turning it into a blog post in my head. Oh yeah, this blogging thing is a sickness, I tell ya. Well, I had one of those moments last week. I was tagging along on a shopping trip with my aunt and cousin, when suddenly I had a lightbulb moment: “I could do a window shopping post!!!” I just couldn’t resist, especially since it was the rare occasion that I actually was carrying my camera! So, I snapped a few pictures of some fun things that caught my eye. And here they are for ya. We were in Augusta, Maine, shopping at The Christmas Tree Shop. It is a fun store that holds a little bit of everything, not just Christmas stuff like the name suggests. Usually things are pretty reasonably priced, and you can find random things there that are hard to find in other places. Here are some fun things I found: I absolutely adored these vases.
