The Great Garage Clean Out Challenge

If you have been reading here over the last couple of months, you know that I have been working on some trash removal/landscaping/garage organizing. I was focusing on the lawn first, and have made quite a bit of headway on that! But I was super excited when I found out that there was going to be a Great Garage Clean Out Challenge!! What better way to get motivated!

Just to refresh your memory, here is what our garage currently looks like:

When they said "challenge" they really meant it, didn't they? :)

When we moved here, there was a lot of stuff left from the previous owners. Stuff that doesn't work. Stuff that is junk. Old boards, tools, etc. You have some of that stuff too, I know you do. We moved in September, just in time for snow to fly and things to get cold, which means we just dumped all of our junk on top of the junk that was already there, and called it a day. And there she sits...these things do not get better over time! At least, not by themselves, they don't!

I'm really excited to tackle this space. Really truly. It is going to be a huge job, but I think I'm up to the challenge!

Here are a couple more pictures of some of the area:

Behold...two freezers we don't use. It doesn't take many brains to figure out that these need to go! (I just have to find out how to get rid of them around here...which means making those phone calls. Blast.) Once those are out, I'm thinking a shelving unit would fit nicely in this corner!

I *think* I see old windows, boards and gyprock back in that corner. Buh-bye.

This is the workbench, which at one time of its life was actually nicely organized. See the pegboard along the back? There are lots of hooks as well. I know this space could be more useful to the males of this family! I also love the shelves below and above it...lots of room! Once I get rid of the junk!

Overhead storage has its possibilities, too. I personally would like to see it become a little more sturdy, lol!

Oh, and then there is these...

Bags of garbage from my lawn cleaning up. You know what that means. Phone calls. Blast again.

Well, there you have it. It is going to be a BIG challenge, but I can't wait to see the space when it is all done!! I'm excited to see what the others participating in this challenge will do with their spaces, too.

Next week I will be gone to play the piano for a wedding, but in two weeks I'll see ya back here with (hopefully!) an update and already-much-improved space! Here's to hoping! Any volunteers to come help me? =)

  1. Wow. How nice of the previous owners to leave their junk for you to deal with. Ugh! I'm not sure about where you live but there are some companies that will haul things off for you. I would love to have some overhead storage. That would make for a lot of extra space. Oh how I wish I knew how to play the piano. :) Good luck with your garage clean out.
