How I Pack - in an Organized Fashion!

Image
I've mentioned before that I like to travel (flying is my favorite!) so whenever I go anywhere it seems to inspire travel-related posts! I've written about flying Jet Blue , some tips and stories from my flying experiences , and a list of things I often forget . :\ Today, I'd like to share how I pack! I always try to stay fairly organized to help keep things simple and so I can find my clothes when I reach my destination, haha! Here is a shot of my suitcase nearly packed up: Shirts are in the top left-hand corner, then clockwise is skirts, my pj's, towels and a dress rolled up there in the bottom corner. I typically do not roll my clothes, unless I'm really in a pinch to get these squeezed in! Then after the suitcase was "full" I added these to the top: A towel and my jacket still fit nicely on top and allowed the suitcase to zip easily. I use the zippered mesh pocket to store my "rear-view mirror!" It stays pretty safe and protected there, sin

My new "Gadget"

***Happy Tuesday! I found out today that I'm "stuck" in Maine a couple days longer, so you'll continue to excuse the irregular posting! Now I get to fill in the extra time with more family visits, woo hoo! One of my goals for 2012 was to simplify, and one of the ways I strive to do that is to limit the amount of stuff I have. It is so easy to accumulate, accumulate, accumulate - not even bad things, just things! That is why I frequently weed out and donate items so they don't get built up. But.... (You knew there was a "but," didn't you?) Sometimes having things is necessary or better in the long run. Take my sewing machine and serger for instance. They get so dusty and packed up with fabric fuzz...similar to the lint that collects in your pockets over time! All that build up is not good for the machine and could cause serious problems if allowed to continue. So, I picked up this: It is a mini vacuum, designed for computers and electronics! I actua

Conquering my Clothing Clutter

I've been slowly chipping away at making the switch from winter clothes to summer wear, so I was excited to be able to share it with you and participate in a linky party all at the same time! Aren't linky parties just so much fun? Here in Nova Scotia, one can't ever completely make the switch from winter to summer clothes. Only the heaviest sweaters get put away, the rest has to stay out all. summer. long . Yup, its June and I'm still wearing knee socks, coats and sweaters! But I do make a point to go through all my clothes, purge, and re-organize in the spring and fall, anyway. Here is my nicely organized closet space! I get an end of this rod in a space tucked in the eaves of our house. Not an ideal closet, but it allows me to hang up the most pertinent things. Our house is over 200 years old, so it doesn't have any original built-in closets. I'm thankful for the space I do have! I try to organize things by type and then by color. Coats and jackets are first

May Pinterest Project: Toilet Paper Roll Organization

Image
My Pinterest-inspired project this time is one that has been floating around the pinterest world for a while, but that doesn't make having "Toilet Paper" in this blog title any less awkward, haha! Hey, a bloggers gotta do what a bloggers gotta do! This project was recently highlighted by Jen of I {Heart} Organizing: Source: iheartorganizing.blogspot.ca via Nicole on Pinterest But other pins like this have been around the block as well: Source: storageandglee.blogspot.com via Jen on Pinterest Such a great idea! I decided to use it to organize my hair tool cords. I just found a few toilet paper rolls, covered them in pretty paper and this easy-peasy project was done! I had been keeping the cords wrapped in a twist-tie, so my drawer was not a huge mess, but I love the ease and the eye appeal of this method! I found that they don't slip off at all , I can pick up my straightener and the cord comes with it all nicely contained in its roll. So nice! One of my curling i

Garage Clean Up Challenge: Done!

Image
I am super, SUPER excited to show you the results of a month long Garage Clean out project! My space has come sooo far, the "after" pictures literally make me giddy excited! Here is some background of this project first, for those just coming in: I decided a couple of months ago to work on cleaning this garage as well as a bunch of junk and garbage in our yard, left by years of previous owners of this house. Here in Nova Scotia, it is not as easy as it should be to get rid of stuff. There are so many recycling laws and regulations that it makes everything confusing! So instead, stuff gets thrown in the bushes. Great solution, right? I decided that in order to be good stewards of what God has given to us, and since God has commanded us to do things "decently and in order," the mess had to go. You can view all the before pictures here.  When Laura announced a garage project for the month of May, I knew I was in! It was the perfect way to really get myself in gear t
