Life These Days - September Recap

Here is a random glimpse into my life the past few weeks! I'll warn you, this post has no rhyme or reason, so just flow with it, ok? :)

September brought a lot of positive steps in my personal life. I entered September feeling a little overwhelmed from a crazy busy summer, but this month gave me a little time to slow down and focus on some priorities in my own life.

Sometimes the best thing you can do to encourage yourself to move forward is to recognize even the smallest of achievements in an area you are working on. There are times I have felt overwhelmed with all I wanted to do and all I wasn't doing. Instead, I chose to focus on little, teeny ways I was making progress, and I have been so much more encouraged and motivated!

Funny tidbit about this vest...I've worn it twice, thinking I was going to be all cutsie and "Fall-ish". The first day I wore it to work and had to wear an apron over it - I ended up just feeling puffy and fat, not cutsie at all! The second day ended up being 80 degrees. I can't win.

Part of the teeny progress I've made has been in the area of trying new things. I had this mindset that I was too busy...all I had time for was work, eating and sleeping. But really the problem was I just didn't start! I put things off or waited until I thought I "had time." The reality? I just needed to start when I had a little time. It is amazing what you can get done in a small amount of time! So here is one new thing I tried...yummy bread and butter pickles! (I used this recipe from the Frugal Foodie Mama.)

I bought the Make Over Your Mornings course from Crystal at the Money Saving Mom. I was able to get it at a discounted price, and it has been encouraging! One thing I know about the people who seem to "do it all" is that they are early risers. They make the most of their mornings! I've seen this to be true not just in the lives of successful business people but also among great spiritual leaders. Although rising early is not the focus of the course, it certainly has been helpful in reevaluating my mornings and how I could be using them better. I'm taking the course slowly, praying over the lessons and challenges, and enjoy the small improvements I've been able to make so far.

It is that time of year! I've been enjoying Hot Apple Cider regularly, including sharing it with my cousins. It is fun to eat foods in season!

That is a little bit of what September looked like for me. I'd love to hear a little recap of your recent days in the comments below! Are you making progress in any personal areas? What do you find motivates you to keep moving forward?

  3. I completely agree that rising early makes it easier to get things done. I am not a morning person by nature, but I have been forcing myself to get out of bed at 5:30 these last few weeks, and I feel much more organized and accomplished.

    1. Oh wow...go you!! I have been seeing progress in the last couple weeks, which is so encouraging. Keep up the good work! I think you would be encouraged by the Make Over your Mornings course, it gives so many great productivity ideas even though you are already rising early.

  8. My mom does her own pickles every few years. I am generally an early riser but I notice as I am getting older that is harder to do. And yes, the sunsets have been beautiful!

  9. We love apple cider this time of year. Really focusing in on smaller, bite size changes is fantastic! Drops of water add up to rivers, lakes, or oceans after all. Keep up the good work!

I'm reminded of this quote by John Rohn:

"You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight."
